The professional's choice

Neste Oil’s small-engine gasoline is an excellent, safe choice for lawnmowers, chainsaws, and small outboards.

Neste Oil’s small-engine gasoline is a better alternative for small engines that run at high and hot operating speeds than regular 95 E10 gasoline, for example. In addition to being more pleasant to use, it also offers excellent performance. Anyone trying it for the first time normally switches to it permanently.

As chainsaws, lawnmowers, and many other small engines are operated close to the user, low emissions are a major factor. Lower emissions also mean than people’s clothes will not pick up that familiar ‘gasoline smell’ they tend to do with regular fuel.

Product Specialist Tuomas Kuivamäki of Husqvarna, which produces and markets a range of small gasoline-powered machines, recommends that users switch to fuel specially formulated for their needs.

“There are a lot of advantages in switching. Because of its low level of evaporation, small-engine gasoline has a much longer shelf life than regular gasoline,” he says. “Its composition also means that there is less coke build-up in engines and engines tend to last longer as well.”

The doubters might say that that, while this is great, small-engine gasoline is more expensive. The amount of fuel used by these engines is so small, though, says Kuivamäki, that price is not really an issue. When an engine performs better, it is also likely to have a longer life.

“Small-engine gasolines were launched around 10 years ago, but they’ve only really begun to become more popular recently. There’s certainly a market for them, as nearly every household has something that’s powered by a small combustion engine.”

Available in new-style canisters and on a couple of forecourts

Prepacked small-engine gasoline can be found at most Neste Oil service stations in Finland. Its new-style packaging features green canisters for four-stroke fuel and orange ones for two-stroke fuel. These are available in 5-liter (4T and 2T) and 10-liter sizes at Neste Oil stations, K-rauta hardware stores, and distributors.

Four-stroke small-engine gasoline can be used with all four-stroke engines, which makes it an easy choice.

It is also available from forecourt pumps at two Neste Oil service stations, in Helsinki and Porvoo. Fuel bought here is cheaper, at around €2/l, than that sold in prepacked form.
