Greenhouse gas emissions reduced by 40–90%Neste Oil’s most effective tool for combating climate change is reducing the volume of greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere by producing and supplying NExBTL renewable diesel.
The use of this fuel, produced from all the raw materials that Neste Oil is currently using, results in 40–90% lower greenhouse gas emissions than those associated with fossil diesel – as measured over the product’s entire life cycle from raw material production to end-use. At best, the greenhouse gas emission reduction can reach 80–90%, when NExBTL renewable diesel is produced from waste- and residue-based raw materials

The figures presented in the table above consist of the average greenhouse gas emission reduction values calculated by Neste Oil for the entire life cycle of the fuel produced at the Porvoo refinery and transported to European markets. The emission reduction is affected the raw material production methods, the selected modes of transport, fuel refining, transportation of fuel, and the end use.
The figures have been calculated based on Neste Oils’ method. The suitability of this method to meet the requirements from EU’s Renewable Energy Directive (2009/28/EC, i.e. RED) and Fuel Quality Directive (2009/30/EC, i.e. FQD) has been assured by certifying company SGS as part of ISCC certification process. When calculating the emission reduction, comparison is made with 83.8 g CO2eq/MJ for fossil fuel.
