Supply chain and traceability of palm oilNeste Oil is committed to procure only sustainably produced palm oil from 100 % traceable sources. The company does not procure any batches of palm oil of which proof of origin is not available. This is in line with the EU directive on renewable energy, which establishes strict sustainability criteria for the production of these fuels.
Neste Oil procures its palm oil from suppliers that are either certified or committed to and well-advanced in their certification process. If Neste Oil is about to buy palm oil from an uncertified source, the sustainability of the production will be verified with Neste Oil’s own verification scheme. All palm oil suppliers are audited by a third party auditor in order to assure the sustainability.

1. The seed unit is the foundation of the consistent quality achieved by the plantation, and uses cross-pollinating techniques. Seeds are then germinated and transferred outside to the nursery when they are three months old. When they reach a year old, they are ready for final planting, and two years after that they will start producing their first crop. Palms reach full maturity at 30 months old.
