Neste Oil is one of Europe’s leading producers of top-tier base oils, and also has a strong global position in the business.

The company’s VHVI base oils production capacity is 650,000 t/a.

The growing number of customers in the market for VHVI base oil, together with Neste Oil’s close cooperation with additive and automotive manufacturers, provide good growth opportunities.

The base oil business will also benefit from growing demand in Asia and tougher lubricant quality standards worldwide. Premium-quality products that help reduce fuel consumption and emissions will play an important part in further growing the base oil business.

In October 2011 Neste Oil, The Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco), and nogaholding started commercial production at the new base oil plant in Bahrain. A new joint venture base oil plant increased Neste Oil's total Group III base oils capacity from 250,000 metric t/a to 650,000 metric t/a. Neste Oil owns 45% of the plant.
